Taipei, Taiwan, Jan 15, 2006 -- Extending serial-based communication and energy efficiency to industrial and embedded computing, Protech Systems Co., Ltd., the leading provider of industrial computers, recently released the EPC-8611F system featuring the latest Intel® Celeron® M Ultra-Low Voltage processor with 1 GHz core speed and the Intel® 852GM chipset with Intel® ICH4 I/O hub. Designed to run on Windows® XP/XP Embedded/2000/CE and Linux operating systems, the EPC-8911F supports up to one Gigabyte of system memory using a DDR266 SODIMM and up to six serial ports in customizable RS232 and RS422/485 configurations.
Delivering speeds of up to 115 Kbps for RS232 and up to 921 Kbps for RS422/485 ports, the EPC-8611F brings enhanced connectivity for high-speed data communications. The RS485 port is equipped with an auto-flow control feature that speeds up data transfers and eliminates data over-run or under-run problems.
The onboard low power processor affords a fanless operation that minimizes system maintenance, chassis space, and operating noise while providing solid performance for a wide range of high-end industrial applications including telecommunications, machine automation, and large-scale data acquisition. Taking advantage of high performance per watt, the EPC-8911F reduces energy consumption along with better thermal management for improved cost control and operating efficiency. Protech additionally offers Windows CE driver support and flash memory if needed.
Integrated solution in an ergonomic package
The high-performance Intel® 852GM chipset embedded in the EPC-8611F motherboard integrates a 32-bit 3D graphics core with 133 MHz clock and comes with the Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) that intelligently allocates system memory and reduces bottlenecks for improved system response. The integrated graphics lowers the EPC-8611Fˇ¦s total cost of ownership (TCO) and helps shrink the system into a lightweight 3 kg package that can be easily installed and integrated into point-of-sale solutions and interactive kiosks. The EPC-8611F offers excellent display support with a VGA port that connects to a CRT or LCD display.
Backed with industrial-grade durability, long product life support and strict revision control, the EPC-8611F comes with advanced data storage options and comprehensive I/O connectivity important for deeply embedded platforms. The EPC-8611F is capable of storing voluminous data with its support for a 2.5" or 3.5" hard disk drive with up to 500 GB capacity. Fast network connectivity is assured with a 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet port, while two high-speed USB 2.0 ports on the front-panel enable convenient connection of USB devices and peripherals. The EPC-8611F also offers 255-sec watchdog timer support for unattended applications. The Intel® ICH4 Southbridge chip supports an AC'97-compliant audio codec for multi-channel audio through the line-in, line-out, and Mic jacks on the EPC-8611F rear panel.
